Udaipur: Under the innovative Panch Gaurav Program initiated by Bhajanlal Sharma, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, positive and long-term results have begun to emerge. Taking forward this initiative, efforts have started in Udaipur to implement the concept of “One District – One Sport” under the leadership of District Collector Namit Mehta.
As part of this initiative, a significant step was taken to identify and nurture swimming talent. A 15-day free residential training camp for 160 young swimmers, selected through block-level swimming talent search competitions, began on Saturday at Maharana Pratap Khelgaon.
The camp’s inaugural ceremony was attended by Phool Singh Meena, MLA from Udaipur Rural, as the chief guest. Special guests included social workers Chandrapupt Singh Chauhan and Pramod Samar, Gaurikant Sharma (Deputy Director, Information & Public Relations), Vikram Singh Chandela, Dilip Singh Chauhan, Puneet Sharma (Joint Director, Statistics), Kuntal Joshi, Girdhari Singh Chauhan, and Pradeep Rawani.
Addressing the participants, MLA Phool Singh Meena said that tribal regions have abundant sports talent, and what is needed is proper opportunity, resources, and guidance. He highlighted that the state government is implementing several schemes to promote sports and support rural talent, enabling athletes to bring pride to the state and the nation. He encouraged young athletes, particularly from tribal areas, to move forward with discipline, regular practice, and determination.
He added that this training camp will not only provide a strong platform for developing swimming talent in Udaipur district but will also prepare athletes for state, national, and international competitions in the future. The program was conducted by Ranveer Singh Ranawat.
District Sports Officer Dr. Mahesh Paliwal informed that under the Panch Gaurav Program, swimming competitions and talent search events were organized from March 7 to March 12, 2026 at all Panchayat Samiti headquarters in the district.
About 741 swimmers from various blocks—including Badgaon, Girwa, Gogunda, Sayra, Devla, Jhadol, Phalasia, Kotra, Nayagaon, Kherwara, Rishabhdev, Kurabad, Mavli, Bhinder, Vallabhnagar, and Udaipur city—participated enthusiastically in the competitions. From each block, 10 top swimmers were selected, making a total of 160 talented athletes chosen for the residential training camp.
Notably, around 100 of the selected participants are from tribal areas, who despite limited resources are determined to shape their future through sports.
During the camp, players will receive training in advanced swimming techniques such as start, turn, and finish techniques, along with fitness and endurance development, speed training, sports discipline, nutrition, and sports psychology, under the guidance of expert coaches.
The district administration and sports department have arranged accommodation, meals, swimming kits, tracksuits, shoes, and socks for the participants. According to the schedule, the camp will include daily morning swimming practice, technical training sessions, theoretical classes, and fitness development activities, ensuring the overall development of the athletes. 🏊♂️🏊♀️
