Udaipur: Under the Swachhta Pakhwada initiative, the West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC), Udaipur, inaugurated a seven-day “Waste to Wealth” (papier-mâché) workshop at Shilpgram on Wednesday.
Director of WZCC, Udaipur, Dr. Ashwin M. Dalvi, informed that the workshop is being organized from April 16 to 30 as part of Swachhta Pakhwada, and will continue till April 28 at the Shilpgram campus. The workshop is being conducted by expert Ramdev Meena from Kota, who will train participants in the finer aspects of papier-mâché, including soaking paper, preparing the mixture using materials like multani mitti, and creating various artistic items from the prepared pulp. Around 20 participants are taking part in the workshop.
In his address, Dr. Dalvi emphasized the core objective of the workshop, stating that no object is truly useless; rather, it depends on how creatively and effectively it is utilized. He explained through examples that making full use of items until the end of their lifecycle has long been part of our cultural values.
He further clarified that the aim of the workshop is not just reuse, but to transform ordinary materials into artistic and functional creations. In other words, turning simple objects into useful and aesthetically appealing items through creativity is the essence of this initiative. Dr. Dalvi stressed that this mindset of mindful usage should be deeply ingrained in our culture. He expressed hope that participants would continue practicing and promoting these skills, helping this value grow within society.
On this occasion, Deputy Director (Programs) Pawan Amarawat, Assistant Director (Finance & Accounts) Durgesh Chandwani, Superintending Engineer C.L. Salvi, Program Executive Hemant Mehta, Rakesh Mehta, and others were present. The program was conducted by Siddhant Bhatnagar.
