Two-Day World Book Day Celebration Concludes in Udaipur

Udaipur: A two-day World Book Day celebration was jointly organized by the Government Public District Library and Salila Sanstha, Salumber. The event saw participation from literary figures from Delhi, Dungarpur, and Salumber, benefiting around 60–70 students. Despite the intense heat, attendees showed great enthusiasm. Girls created rangoli designs, while boys decorated the library building with balloons.

The chief guest, Dr. Poonam Agrawal from NCERT, Delhi, presented her research paper and remarked, “Books are eternal, while mobile devices are transient.” She explained that printed books can remain intact for thousands of years, whereas digital content on mobile devices can be lost due to deletion, file corruption, or version changes. She presented a comparative study between books and digital media.

Addressing students preparing for competitive exams at the library auditorium, she shared key principles for success:

  • Give time to yourself.

  • Read about successful individuals and learn the secrets of their success.

  • Accept failure and learn from it; transform defeat into victory.

  • Set goals but remain flexible.

  • Adapt to change, be unique, and build self-confidence.

She concluded her address with a motivational poem encouraging students to believe in themselves and pursue their aspirations.

Dr. Vimla Bhandari, President of Salila Sanstha, Salumber, informed that on the first day, April 23, a children’s poetry writing competition was organized. Thirteen winners received cash prizes, books, and mementos, and were given the opportunity to present their compositions on stage. Program in-charge Mukesh Rao and school teachers were also present.

The program began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp before Goddess Saraswati, followed by the welcome of guests with shawls, garlands, and mementos. Program coordinator and Library President Prakash Sharma welcomed the gathering. Dr. Vimla Bhandari introduced the guests and highlighted the importance of books, citing examples such as the contribution of the book “History of Salumber.” She also provided detailed information about the event. The program was anchored by Madhu Maheshwari.

Presiding over the event, senior litterateur Dinesh Panchal from Dungarpur stated that quality literature acts as a true friend, whereas misleading and low-quality books can lead one astray. He advised readers to choose books wisely and shared an inspiring anecdote related to Swami Vivekananda, emphasizing the greatness of the Mahabharata.

Poet and painter Kailash Premi from Dungarpur delivered his address as the guest of honor. Senior citizen Shivnarayan Agal also addressed the gathering. The vote of thanks was delivered by Jagdish Bhandari. Among the students, Kavya Bhandari and Kiran Damami gave stage presentations. Shankar Lal Pandey and Snehlata Bhandari presented the Salila Sanstha song and a song on Hadi Rani.

Several dignitaries were present, including Senior Secondary School Principal Bhagwan Lal Trivedi, retired teacher Shyamlal Soni, and retired headmaster Ramesh Kachoriya.
