Success Story: Rahada Foundation Restores Dignity to Varadaji

Udaipur: Meet Varada Meghwal, an 85-year-old resident of Bedwas village, just 10 kilometers from Udaipur city. Despite living in independent India for decades, Varadaji never had the privilege of electricity in his home. But today, his modest life has transformed — thanks to the compassionate initiative of the Rahada Foundation.

It all began when the Foundation organized a health camp in Bedwas. While most visitors came for treatment, Varadaji made a unique request — "I need electricity in my home. My eyesight is failing, and I can't see in the dark anymore." His words, filled with quiet pain, moved everyone present. The camp's doctors were taken aback, and they immediately relayed the request to Archana Singh Charan, the founder of Rahada Foundation.

Archana Singh personally visited Varadaji’s residence, accompanied by her team. What she found was heart-wrenching — a frail, elderly man living alone in a dilapidated mud house, with no basic amenities and no one to support him. Deeply moved, she made him a promise: not only would she bring electricity to his home, but she would also help rebuild it.

What followed was three months of tireless effort. The Foundation faced bureaucratic hurdles in securing the electricity connection, but Archana’s persistence never waned. She collected necessary documents, visited offices, and followed up relentlessly. Eventually, Varadaji’s home was finally lit up — literally and emotionally.

Simultaneously, the Foundation arranged funds to rebuild the crumbling structure into a pucca house, complete with a toilet, running water, and dignity. For the first time in his life, Varada Meghwal now has a safe, clean, and comfortable home — and a reason to smile.

Fighting back tears, the elderly man said, “I never imagined that at this stage in life, I would have a home of my own — a place where I can sleep peacefully.”

This effort wasn’t just about electricity or construction. It was about healing a broken spirit, offering shelter to a forgotten soul, and restoring the lost dignity of an Indian citizen.

Speaking about the journey, Archana Singh Charan said, “When empathy, dedication, and a positive mindset come together, no change is impossible. Varadaji’s smile is the biggest reward for Rahada Foundation.”

Varadaji’s home now stands as a symbol of an empowered India — one that cares, uplifts, and ensures that every life is treated with respect.
