Raising Awareness for Cancer Prevention on World Cancer Day

*Udaipur, Every year, World Cancer Day is observed on February 4th to promote awareness and education about the seriousness of cancer. According to a report by the World Cancer Research Fund International, there were 18.1 million cancer cases worldwide in 2020. Among them, 9.3 million were in men, and 8.8 million in women. As per the National Institute of Health's report, the estimate suggests a 12.8% increase in cancer cases by 2025 compared to 2020.*

*Dr. Manoj Mahajan, Director of Medical Oncology at Paras Health, Udaipur, emphasizes that cancer can manifest in various parts of the body due to factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, unhealthy diet, unsafe sexual practices, and more. Prevention is crucial, and paying attention to its symptoms is equally important. Symptoms like unexplained weight loss, loss of appetite, coughing or blood in the mouth, skin changes, digestive issues, excessive fatigue, and weakness should prompt immediate consultation with a doctor.*

*Dr. Subhabrata Das, Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist at Paras Health, Udaipur, advises incorporating green leafy vegetables, fruits, nuts, fruit and vegetable juices, and whole grains with fiber into a regular diet for cancer prevention. He also suggests avoiding tobacco, alcohol, deep-fried and processed foods, red meat, sausages, packaged foods, and carbonated drinks. Maintaining a healthy weight and engaging in daily exercise are additional measures to reduce the risk of cancer.*
