Villagers Strongly Oppose Shifting of Waste Plant from Netewala to Narsinghpura Manjhuwas Barani

Sri Ganganagar: The administration’s sudden proposal to shift the long-planned solid waste management plant from Netewala village to Narsinghpura Manjhuwas Barani—located several kilometers away from the city—has sparked strong opposition among villagers.

The plant had been proposed for the past 10 years in Netewala to ensure scientific disposal of solid waste in the Sri Ganganagar Municipal Council area. However, just three days ago, the administration proposed relocating it, triggering widespread resentment.

A meeting of prominent villagers was held today at Maharshi Gau Seva Sadan in Narsinghpura, where a unanimous decision was taken to oppose the relocation. After discussions, it was also decided to convene a Mahapanchayat on Wednesday at the Gurukul Ashram in Narsinghpura village. People from nearby villages including Manjhuwas, Ganeshgarh, Chak 22 ML, Chak 23 ML, Chak 24 ML (Latthawali), Khichadawali, Suleman Ki Head, Chak 51 LNP, Chak 38 LNP, and several surrounding areas have been invited.

Mesi Chaudhary, President of Gau Raksha Seva Dal Narsinghpura, stated that villagers termed the move a serious conspiracy. He alleged that certain officials of the Municipal Council and district administration misled District Collector Dr. Amit Yadav to shift the plant. He pointed out that all formalities for setting up the plant in Netewala had already been completed since 2016. The central government had approved a budget of ₹78 crore, and the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) had been obtained. A Delhi-based firm had also been awarded the tender to construct the plant on 17 bighas of land near the National Highway in Netewala, which met all standards.

In contrast, the proposed site in Narsinghpura has only 13 bighas of land and is located far from the National Highway, deep inside agricultural fields. The Rajasthan High Court had earlier, on March 3, directed that construction at the Netewala site should begin within one month.

Villagers stated that the environmental and health concerns raised earlier by Netewala residents would equally affect Narsinghpura. They also argued that completing fresh formalities such as obtaining NOC for the new location would take considerable time, whereas only construction work remained pending in Netewala. This delay would further prolong the waste disposal problem of Sri Ganganagar city.

It was unanimously decided that all these points would be presented in the Mahapanchayat, and a strategy for protest and agitation would be prepared. A delegation will also meet the District Collector to present the facts and demand that the plant should not be set up in Narsinghpura.

Notably, the district administration had announced last Saturday that the plant would now be set up in Narsinghpura Barani instead of Netewala, and the local panchayat had allotted 13 bighas of land. However, strong opposition has now emerged from villagers there as well.

Several villagers and representatives attended the meeting, including Mesi Chaudhary, Mahendra Khoth, Sarpanch Hansraj Bamaniya, Director Madan Soni, Rakesh Gyani, Rampratap Manju, Dr. Babulal, Dr. Roopram Mahiya, Subhash Rewar, Surendra Manju, Bunty Nayak, Ajay Gangangariya, Indersen Potliya, Gautam Manju, Rajaram Beniwal, Shriram Burdak, Pappu Burdak, Krishnalal Mahiya, Madan Mahiya, Sunil Rewar, and Sandeep Manju.

Villagers stated that due to administrative negligence and inefficiency, this important project—pending for the last 10 years—is being unnecessarily dragged into controversy. They have begun preparing for a strong protest movement against the decision.
