Azadari Procession Taken Out on Ashura

Udaipur: The Dawoodi Bohra community observed Yawm-e-Ashura today in solemn remembrance of Imam Hussain (A.S.), grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), son of Hazrat Ali (A.S.) and Sayyida Fatima (A.S.), and his 72 companions, who were martyred in the battle of Karbala.

The traditional Azadari mourning procession was taken out at 2 PM from Mohiyadpura Masjid in Boharwadi to Wazihpura Masjid. According to Firoz Hussain, secretary of the Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat, ‘Alams’ of Hazrat Abbas Alamdar were carried in the procession. Participants included Noha reciters (Nohakhwan) who led the crowd in mourning chants and elegies. Women of the community stood silently in grief, many with teary eyes, while youth and even small children expressed their sorrow by chanting in remembrance of Imam Hussain and the 72 martyrs.

Iqbal Hussain Rassa Wala, president of the Jamaat, informed that a Majlis (religious gathering) was organized at Wazihpura Masjid on the intervening night of 4th and 5th July, where Mudassir Ali Zariwala delivered the main address, and Zakir-e-Hussain recited elegies narrating the tragic events of Karbala.

Following the procession, Ali Asghar Khilona Wala narrated the Maqtal (martyrdom account) of Imam Hussain and his 72 companions inside Wazihpura Masjid.
