Seminar on Consumer Protection Held in Udaipur

Udaipur: A seminar on consumer protection was organized on Tuesday at the District Supply Office and Maruti Seva Samiti in Ashok Nagar, as part of the Consumer Week celebrations at the divisional level, under the direction of the Principal Secretary of the Food and Civil Supplies Department. The seminar focused on the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, and aimed to raise awareness among consumers about their rights and responsibilities in the marketplace.

Consumer Protection Officer Mahesh Sharma and District Supply Officer Manish Bhatnagar provided valuable insights into the Legal Metrology Act, emphasizing the importance of accurate measurement and weighing while shopping in today’s market. Sharma explained the standardization, verification, and calibration processes for measuring instruments, while Bhatnagar discussed the packaging rules under the Legal Metrology Act. He advised consumers to always check the MRP, expiry date, and brand name on packaged goods.

Pramod Jhanwar from Maruti Seva Samiti informed consumers about potential online shopping frauds and urged them to be cautious while making online purchases. Raj Rajeshwar Jain and Rajendra Jain from the Petroleum Association emphasized checking the fuel dispensing machines' zero reading and ensuring preset calibration when purchasing fuel.

Legal Metrology Officer Bhagwatilal Paliwal also highlighted the use and verification of machines used for measuring and weighing. Representatives from Bapna Gas shared insights into the verification of lathe and weighing machines. The seminar concluded with a practical demonstration at the Udaipur Filling Station, where Paliwal and his team explained the verification process of fuel pumps and nozzle calibration.

District Supply Office representatives Rajendra Singh Ranawat, Hukmichand Nagda, and Mohammad Fayaz were also present at the event.
