New Delhi. Good news for vehicle owners passing through toll plazas — the government has amended FASTag rules to encourage online payments and provide relief to drivers. Under the new rule, non-FASTag or expired FASTag vehicle owners paying via UPI will receive a 25% discount on the double toll amount usually charged.

The new policy aims to promote digital transactions and make toll collection more transparent. It will come into effect from November 15, 2025, under the National Highways Fee (Rates and Collection) Rules, 2025.

Currently, if a non-FASTag vehicle owner pays toll in cash, they are required to pay double the amount. For instance, if the regular toll is ₹50, a FASTag user pays ₹50, while a non-FASTag driver paying in cash pays ₹100. From November 15 onward, if the driver pays the same toll via UPI instead of cash, they will get a 25% concession on the double fee — paying ₹75 instead of ₹100.

The government expects that this step will reduce cash transactions at toll plazas, streamline payments, and make travel on national highways smoother and more convenient for commuters.
