Jaipur — The state government has made it clear to the High Court that student union elections will not be conducted in universities and colleges during the 2025 academic session. In its reply, the government stated that vice-chancellors of nine universities have recommended against holding the elections, citing possible disruption to studies and academic activities.

The government argued that the implementation of the National Education Policy is still in progress, making it impractical to organize elections at this time. The Lyngdoh Committee had recommended conducting elections within eight weeks of the commencement of the session, but the government stated that such a move is not feasible under the current circumstances.

This response was submitted in relation to a petition filed by Jai Rao, an MA first-year student at the University of Rajasthan. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for Thursday.
