Udaipur,  An outreach workshop of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) was organised on Saturday at the Vidya Bhawan Auditorium, jointly by the Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic ISTE & IEI Student Chapters and TRAI. Senior officials from TRAI Rajasthan Zone interacted with students and shared crucial information on telecom services, cyber safety, and career opportunities in the telecom sector.

Officials informed that TRAI’s website provides a public facility where users can check the signal strength of different telecom operators in specific areas, enabling citizens to choose mobile networks based on accurate coverage data. Important tools such as the DND app and the Sanchar Saathi app were highlighted for preventing cyber fraud, digital scams, obscene video calls, and other online threats. Strong provisions for immediate action in case of fraud were also explained.

Rajesh Agrawal, Advisor and senior ITS officer, Rajasthan, who was the chief guest, stated that mobile and internet services have become essential for personal and professional life. As the regulatory authority of the Government of India, TRAI aims to deliver vital technical information directly to the youth. He emphasised that people must remain alert, but should not panic when facing issues — instead, they should seek assistance from TRAI’s available support mechanisms.

J.P. Garg, Joint Advisor, clarified that there is no scientific evidence proving harmful radiation from mobile towers. Reports on tower power levels for every area are available on the Tarang Sanchar portal. If anyone wishes to get a tower evaluated, they can request testing for a nominal fee.

Sanjeev Meena, Senior Research Officer, explained that the DND 3.0 app is extremely useful for blocking unwanted calls and SMS. He added that the Sanchar Saathi portal/app helps users verify suspicious numbers, report cyber fraud, check mobile connections registered under their name, and even file complaints about lost or stolen phones. In case of cyber fraud, immediate reporting via helpline 1930 or through the government’s cybercrime.gov.in portal was recommended.

Cyber security expert Chirag Paliwal cautioned youth against sharing personal photos, private information, and movement details on social media, as it aids cybercriminals. He advised against using the same password across multiple platforms and warned that granting unnecessary permissions while downloading apps can also lead to risks.

Earlier, Principal Dr. Anil Mehta welcomed the officials. Coordination was handled by Amit Kushwaha. Representatives from all mobile operator companies active in Udaipur were present during the session.
