Udaipur: Alleging that development activities across the region have come to a standstill due to the “anti-people policies” of the Rajasthan government, the Udaipur Dehat District Congress Committee staged a protest outside the Divisional Commissioner’s office in Udaipur and submitted a memorandum demanding the immediate resumption of pending works.

According to District Congress Media In-charge Dinesh Audichya, development projects across all Assembly constituencies under the Udaipur Dehat District Congress Committee have remained stalled for the past two years, causing significant hardship to the public. The protest was held at the Divisional Commissioner’s office on Saheli Marg, Chetak Circle, where party leaders urged authorities to restart incomplete works in every constituency.

State Congress General Secretary Lal Singh Jhala alleged that the state government, which came to power promising a “double engine” model, has instead focused on removing beneficiaries’ names from welfare schemes. He claimed that the government has curtailed several public welfare initiatives introduced by the previous Congress administration and that development activities have come to a halt. He warned that if corrective steps are not taken, the party would intensify its agitation in the coming months.

Udaipur Dehat District Congress President Raghuveer Singh Meena criticized what he described as the government’s indifference to public concerns. He alleged that discussions on development issues are being avoided in the Assembly and accused the administration of taking credit for projects that were approved, funded, and tendered during the previous Congress government.

Meena further claimed that more than 250 dilapidated government school buildings have been demolished without reconstruction, forcing students in rural areas to study in temporary tin sheds or open spaces. He also alleged delays in conducting Panchayati Raj and municipal elections, which he said have hindered local development.

Former minister Dr. Mangilal Garasiya stated that the people of Rajasthan are bearing the brunt of alleged internal differences between Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and senior BJP leader Vasundhara Raje.

The Congress leaders also raised concerns over stalled rural road projects and alleged funding shortages in the Jal Jeevan Mission, claiming that residents in rural areas are facing difficulties in accessing clean drinking water. They further pointed to poor road conditions across the region.

After the protest, party representatives met the Divisional Commissioner and submitted a memorandum seeking the immediate resumption of all stalled development works in the division.

Several senior Congress leaders and party workers were present at the demonstration, including city and district office-bearers and former elected representatives. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Sanjeev Rajpurohit, while the vote of thanks was delivered by former district president Kachru Lal Chaudhary.
