Udaipur: Six-year-old Viraj Sharma of Udaipur is drawing attention for his remarkable strength after lifting 47 kg despite weighing around 17.5 kg. The young athlete has been training in weightlifting and powerlifting and has received recognition from several record organisations, according to his family.
At a press conference at Hotel Vrajraj Palace in Hiran Magri Sector 4, Viraj’s father, Vaibhav Sharma, said his son began his record journey at the age of 5 years and 11 months. According to the family, Viraj first lifted 35 kg, followed by 42 kg and later 47 kg, improving on his earlier performances.
The 35 kg achievement is also listed by the India Book of Records, which identifies Viraj Sharma as an “IBR Achiever” for lifting 35 kg three times in 14 seconds in the deadlift category.
The family said Viraj has subsequently received recognition from organisations including the India Book of World Records, Influencers Book of World Records, Asia Book of Records and International Book of World Records. Local reports also state that he has received seven record-related honours and recognitions.
From 35 Kg to 47 Kg
Viraj’s progression has been notable. He initially lifted 35 kg, followed by 42 kg and most recently 47 kg, according to his family. He is currently training at the Lavkush Indoor Stadium under junior coach Om Prakash Patel.
Recognition for Young Sporting Talent
Viraj’s father also said that the International Book of World Records has recognised him as one of the youngest participants in weightlifting and powerlifting. This distinction is being reported as a family-provided recognition rather than independently verified as a global sporting record.
The family has also said that Viraj received a “Super Talented Kid — One in a Million” recognition. This claim could not be independently verified from an official government source in the material reviewed.
Viraj, a Class HKG student at St. Paul’s Senior Secondary School, has also received appreciation from former Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, according to his family.
His father said Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has invited Viraj to Jaipur. A proposal has also been made for him to demonstrate his weightlifting and powerlifting skills at an upcoming Khelo India event in New Delhi.
Viraj’s achievements at such a young age have generated considerable interest in Udaipur, with his family and coaches now focusing on nurturing his sporting talent alongside his education.
