Udaipur: More than 125 mining engineering students from CTAE Udaipur and Pacific College visited Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Ltd.’s Jhamarkotra Rock Phosphate Mines as part of a technical exposure programme organised on the initiative of the Mining Engineers’ Association of India (MEAI), Udaipur Chapter.

Newly appointed assistant mining engineers from the Rajasthan government’s Department of Mines and Geology also joined the students during the visit.

The student delegation was flagged off in the presence of MEAI Rajasthan Chapter, Udaipur Chairman Mahesh Mathur and CTAE Dean Vinod Yadav.

MEAI Udaipur Chapter Secretary Dr. Hitanshu Kaushal said the objective was to take students beyond classroom learning and familiarise them with real-world mining conditions, modern technology, safety standards and industry practices.

At Jhamarkotra, RSMML Mine Manager Durgesh Joshi delivered a detailed technical presentation at the Vocational Training Centre. He briefed the students about RSMML, the Jhamarkotra rock phosphate deposit, mining and production processes, the importance of rock phosphate in India and safety practices followed at the mine.

The field visit was coordinated by MEAI Udaipur Chapter Vice-President Asif M. Ansari, with Vikram Sirvi of CTAE and Hemant Vaishnav of Pacific College assisting in guiding the students.

Students subsequently visited the mine area and observed opencast mining operations, heavy mining machinery, bench formation, production systems and safety practices. They also learnt about environmental protection, plantation, social responsibility and CSR initiatives.

A plantation drive was organised during the visit, with MEAI office-bearers and members planting saplings.

Dr. Kaushal said strengthening the bridge between academic education and industry remains a key priority for MEAI. Such field exposure, he said, would help students become technically skilled, capable and responsible mining professionals.
