Udaipur : Shantipeeth organised a discussion on the occasion of the 60th World Teachers’ Day, bringing together people from diverse fields who emphasised the continuing importance of teachers in shaping individuals and society.
The speakers said that if the present century is to become an era of optimism and progress, teachers must come forward without hesitation and take up the responsibility of fulfilling the expectations that society places on them.
President’s Award-winning teacher Dr. Shrikrishna Jugnu said teachers should strive to create a legacy that remains relevant for centuries and inspires generations to come. “Life is one, but its dimensions are many. Every dimension should be inspiring and worthy of emulation,” he said. He stressed the need for teachers to remain abreast of contemporary developments and continually evolve their teaching and training methods to keep education relevant.
Former Municipal Commissioner Dinesh Kothari said the day established by the United Nations was not meant only for teachers, but also called upon society to stand with them. He noted that across different eras and systems of governance, teachers and gurus have traditionally been accorded the highest respect.
Former IAS officer Sumati Lal Bohra underlined the importance of a guru’s guidance in shaping an individual’s life. She said the role of a teacher and mentor remains significant even in family and social life.
Dr. Kamal Singh Rathore said teachers are not merely responsible for completing the syllabus but play a crucial role in shaping the future of individuals and society. “In today’s AI and digital age, the role of teachers has become even more important,” he said.
Shantipeeth founder Anant Ganesh Trivedi, referring to the Sanskrit saying, “Swadeshe Pujyate Raja, Vidwan Sarvatra Pujyate”—a king is respected in his own land, while a learned person is respected everywhere—said teachers must perform their role as independent thinkers and remain free from external pressures.
He said the social ecosystem is constantly evolving, but teachers have a primary role in ensuring that this change continues to move in a positive direction. He called upon teachers to come forward with courage, unite positive forces across the world and help create an atmosphere of hope and optimism.
