Udaipur: The true purpose of religion and faith is not limited to outward rituals, but lies in developing compassion, kindness and goodwill within oneself, said Dr. Surendra Muni during a spiritual discourse.
He said every individual should make a conscious effort to adopt good qualities in life, as merely recognizing virtues in others is not enough. People should strive to incorporate those qualities into their own conduct.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Surendra Muni said life has its share of ups and downs, but one should continue moving forward with a positive outlook. Respect, love and a spirit of cooperation toward others can contribute significantly to building a better society. In this context, the gathering was also given an explanation of the 12 vows of a Shravak (Jain lay follower).
Dr. Rajendra Muni said that incorporating the message of Lord Mahavira’s principle of nonviolence into daily life is an important need of the present times. Showing compassion and sensitivity toward all living beings is the essence of true religion, he said. Human behaviour and actions should help create an environment where every living being can live safely and with dignity.
Reflecting on attachment to material possessions, Dr. Rajendra Muni said people should avoid excessive attachment to the objects and resources they acquire. Everything available to an individual can be used only for a limited period, and therefore one should maintain an attitude of equanimity toward material possessions.
He said life is constantly changing. Just as the water in a river keeps changing from moment to moment, human life also changes continuously. Time that has passed can never return, making it essential to make meaningful use of the present.
He encouraged people to cultivate good values, positive संस्कार and spiritual principles in their lives and move toward self-realization and well-being.
On the occasion, Upadhyay Ramesh Muni and Dipesh Muni also shared spiritual guidance with the gathering.
