Ignoring Stress Can Lead to Anxiety, Depression: Dr. Jeengar

Udaipur — At the Regional Railway Training Institute, Dr. Jitendra Jeengar, Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Geetanjali Hospital, addressed new trainees and officers about workplace stress and its management. He stated that unmanaged stress can increase the risk of anxiety, phobia, OCD, depression, substance abuse, and even suicidal thoughts. Long working hours, staff shortages, heavy workload, lack of decision-making power, unequal pay, poor cooperation, and unsafe work conditions are key contributors to stress.

Stress affects concentration, work efficiency, sleep, appetite, and mood, and may cause physical symptoms such as headaches, acidity, stomach pain, palpitations, and chest discomfort.

Dr. Jeengar recommended managing stress through regular exercise, yoga and pranayama, breathing relaxation techniques, meditation, pursuing hobbies, sufficient sleep, balancing work and personal life, taking short breaks at work, maintaining a positive mindset, learning to say “no,” communicating with friends and family, and taking vacations. These practices help maintain mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
