Opium Doda Chura Smuggler Sentenced to Five Years Imprisonment, ₹1,00,000 Fine

Kota – In a verdict delivered by Special NDPS Court Judge Rampal Singh, accused Bharat Singh has been sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment under both Section 8/15 and Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act and fined a total of ₹1,00,000 for smuggling opium and opium doda chura in a seven-year-old case.

Special Public Prosecutor Mahendra Singh Nirbhay informed that on September 17, 2018, GRP Kota detained a person with a bag near the foot-over bridge on Platform No. 2 of Kota Railway Station. Upon questioning, the individual identified himself as Bharat Singh, son of Amar Chand, resident of Dasyakhedi, PS Kumbhraj, District Guna, Madhya Pradesh.

A search of the bag led to the recovery and seizure of 500 grams of pure opium and 14 kilograms of opium doda chura. Following the investigation, a charge sheet was filed under Sections 8/15 and 8/18 of the NDPS Act against Bharat Singh, and under Section 8/29 against co-accused Chetanwan, son of Ganpat, resident of Asanda, PS Dangiyawas, District Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

The prosecution presented a total of 13 witnesses and 65 documents during the trial. Based on the evidence, the court found Bharat Singh guilty and sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment under each section, with both sentences to run concurrently, along with a fine of ₹1,00,000. Meanwhile, co-accused Chetanwan was acquitted on the benefit of doubt.
