Fourth Voluntary Body Donation by Jain Community in 2026

Udaipur: In a deeply inspiring act of humanity and service, the Jain community marked its fourth voluntary body donation of 2026 following the demise of Basanti Lal Pagariya, a resident of Ahinsapuri who had pledged his body donation 12 years ago.

Honouring his final wish, his family members — Kamal, Lalit, Naval, Bhagwati and Vinod Pagariya — facilitated both body donation and eye donation through the local Eye Bank Society, offering a true tribute to his life and values.

His mortal remains were taken in a dignified body donation procession to RNT Medical College, where, in the presence of hundreds of community members and relatives, the formal donation procedure was completed in the Anatomy Department. The medical college presented a body donation certificate to the Pagariya family in recognition of their noble contribution.

A Life of Simplicity and Service

Basanti Lal Pagariya was known for his gentle, simple and sociable personality. He had made meaningful contributions in religious and social spheres throughout his life. His final act of donation reflects the Jain philosophy of compassion and service toward humanity.

The body and eye donation initiative was supported by members of the Lachhiram Hanjar Bai Sukhlecha Charitable Trust, including Secretary Gautam Sukhlecha, Amit Tiwari, and Naveen Jeengar from the Eye Bank, along with other community members.

Appreciation from Medical Fraternity

Doctors from RNT Medical College — Dr. Praveen Ojha, Dr. Shweta Asthana, Dr. Sunil Sharma, Dr. Pooja Dhabai, Dr. Vaibhav Bhatnagar and Dr. Sushant — expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Pagariya family and the Sukhlecha Charitable Trust. They emphasized that such donations are invaluable for medical education and research.

Dr. Sunil Sharma informed that this marks the fourth voluntary body donation by the Jain community in 2026. Earlier this year, Ashulal Kudiriya, Sandhya Nahar and Ravi Khimeshra had also donated their bodies. Additional donations have been received from Asha Dham as well.

Dr. Asthana shared that to date, the college has recorded 180 voluntary body donations, and when combined with donations from Asha Dham and unclaimed bodies, the total number exceeds 235.

Remarkable Contribution by Sukhlecha Charitable Trust

The Sukhlecha Charitable Trust has played a pivotal role in promoting body donation awareness in Udaipur. So far, more than 385 body donation pledge forms have been facilitated by the trust, and approximately 51 body donations have been successfully conducted at RNT Medical College. Notably, 11 of these donations were from members of the Sukhlecha family itself.

Beyond Udaipur, the trust has also facilitated body, eye and blood donations in cities such as Ahmedabad and Bengaluru. The organization continues to actively promote blood donation, eye donation and organ donation as part of its ongoing social service initiatives.

This noble gesture once again highlights how selfless acts can continue to serve society even beyond one’s lifetime, contributing significantly to medical science and humanitarian values.
