Udaipur, Rajasthan – Under the directions of Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, Udaipur district will observe “Jal Swavlamban Pakhwada” (Water Self-Reliance Fortnight) from June 5 to June 20, with the aim of transforming water conservation and environmental protection into a public movement. The initiative will be launched on June 5, coinciding with Ganga Dashami and World Environment Day.
Preparations Underway Across the District
District Collector Mr. Namit Mehta chaired a key video conferencing meeting on Thursday to discuss preparations for the fortnight. All sub-divisional and block-level officers participated, and responsibilities were assigned to each department.
Key Activities and Guidelines
During the fortnight, daily awareness programs and activities focusing on water conservation and sanitation will be held at the block and village panchayat levels. The Collector instructed officials to ensure public participation by involving elected representatives, Rajeevika SHGs, NGOs, and industrial units.
Activities will include:
Prabhat Pheris (early morning awareness marches)
Rallies
Painting competitions
Water Pledge ceremonies
Inauguration of new watershed development projects
Water Worship (Jal Poojan) at five major dams in Udaipur
Sub-divisional officers were directed to prepare detailed action plans, while district-level officers were instructed to submit their plans to the CEO of the Zila Parishad.
Restoration and Clean-Up Drive
The district administration will also undertake repair and cleanliness drives at ponds, dams, canals, and ancient stepwells (bawdis). Before-and-after photographs will be taken to document progress.
Interdepartmental Coordination Encouraged
The District Collector urged departments including Medical, Industries, PWD, Education, Ayurveda, Water Resources, Rural Development, and PHED to play an active role in the campaign.
Focus on CM Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan and CSR
Mr. Mehta also emphasized strengthening the CM Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). He directed officials to prioritize and resolve pending issues related to farm ponds and drip/sprinkler irrigation systems for farmers.
Additionally, he set a deadline of May 31 for uploading maximum entries on the portal related to water conservation activities.
"Hariyalo Rajasthan" Campaign Reviewed
Preparations for the Hariyalo Rajasthan Campaign were also reviewed. The District Forest Officer informed that the target for this year is to plant 3.8 million saplings. Department-wise targets have been assigned, and nursery preparations are underway.
Yoga Programs at Tourist Sites
On the occasion of International Yoga Day (June 21), yoga programs will be held across all blocks and village panchayats in the district. Leading up to the day, from June 20, special yoga sessions will be organized at popular tourist spots like Goverdhan Sagar, Pichola, Saheliyon ki Bari, Fatehsagar, Gulab Bagh, City Palace, and Sajjangarh. Sub-divisional officers have been asked to ensure village-level celebrations and organize photography at the venues.
