###Silent Lung Threat Rising: Dr. Luhadia Warns Against Health Risks Linked to Pigeons and Indoor Pollution

A grand blood donation and free medical consultation camp was organized in Udaipur by the Chitransh Kayastha Sabha Institution and Rotary Club Uday in memory of Late Nisha Mathur, bringing together medical experts, social workers, and citizens for a major community health initiative. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with 51 units of blood donated and nearly 360 people benefiting from free consultations provided by specialists from multiple medical fields.

The highlight of the event was an extensive public awareness session conducted by renowned TB and respiratory disease specialist Dr. Atul Luhadia, who raised serious concerns over the increasing number of patients suffering from Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) and Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis in India. He explained that these diseases often develop silently and gradually damage the lungs over time, making early diagnosis extremely important.

Dr. Luhadia warned that common household factors such as pigeon droppings, feather dust, damp walls, mold, polluted air, dirty air-conditioners, and poorly maintained coolers can trigger dangerous allergic reactions inside the lungs. Repeated exposure to these particles can lead to chronic inflammation and fibrosis, eventually making it difficult for the lungs to function properly. He noted that India records nearly 1.5 lakh new ILD patients every year, while thousands lose their lives annually due to related complications.

Calling pigeons “a hidden urban health hazard,” Dr. Luhadia urged people to stop allowing pigeons to nest in balconies and residential areas. He advised installing protective nets or spikes, maintaining proper cleanliness, and using masks and gloves while cleaning pigeon droppings to avoid inhaling harmful fungal particles.

He further emphasized that symptoms such as persistent dry cough, breathlessness during minor physical activity, fatigue, chest heaviness, and reduced stamina should never be ignored. According to him, lifestyle changes, preventive care, proper ventilation, and timely medical attention can significantly reduce the risk of these life-threatening respiratory diseases.

The camp also featured consultations by experts in orthopedics, gastroenterology, dermatology, physiotherapy, Ayurveda, and dental care, making it a comprehensive healthcare initiative for the community. Blood donors and participating doctors were honored for their valuable contribution toward public welfare and health awareness.
