Udaipur: Honorary Secretary of The Institution of Engineers (India), Udaipur Local Centre, Engineer Piyush Javeria, stated that telecommunication is no longer limited to telephone calls or internet connectivity. It has become the nervous system of the modern world. Every message sent, every online class attended, every digital payment made, every emergency service coordinated, and every business transaction conducted today depends on strong telecommunication networks. From villages to metropolitan cities, telecommunications have connected people beyond geographical boundaries and transformed the way societies function. It has revolutionized healthcare through telemedicine, enabled online education for millions of students, empowered businesses through digital platforms, strengthened governance through e-services, and supported farmers, industries, banking systems, transportation, and disaster management.

The chief speaker of the event, Engineer Pratap Singh Talesara, Director of Pyrotech Electronics Pvt. Ltd., Udaipur, said in his address that Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering is one of the fastest-growing branches of engineering today. In the digital era, its role has become extremely significant. He explained that while Computer Science has brought revolution in software and data processing, Electronics and Telecommunication form the backbone of the entire communication system and digital connectivity. Communication has now become the lifeline of modern society. Almost every sector—including healthcare, education, transportation, defense, disaster management, and administration—depends on effective and uninterrupted communication systems. In this age of digitization, strong communication networks are essential for economic growth and social progress.

Another keynote speaker, Engineer Hemant Pandey, IES, former Chief General Manager of BSNL, Udaipur, emphasized the urgent need to strengthen resilience in telecommunication systems and highlighted the growing importance of digital technologies as essential lifelines of modern society. He stated that terrestrial communication networks, submarine cables, satellite systems, and data infrastructure form the backbone of global connectivity and must remain reliable, secure, resilient, and accessible to all sections of society. He expressed concern over increasing threats to these digital lifelines from climate emergencies such as earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and floods. He also referred to the growing risks of cyberattacks, misinformation campaigns, wars, and terrorist attacks that can damage communication infrastructure. He noted that whenever communication networks fail, businesses come to a halt and emergency services face severe coordination challenges. He emphasized that resilience means ensuring digital systems are capable of withstanding disruptions, adapting to challenges, and recovering quickly, thereby protecting both lives and livelihoods. He also highlighted several important national initiatives and actions being undertaken to strengthen digital resilience, including efforts by the central government to classify digital infrastructure and telecommunication services as critical infrastructure. He stated that in today’s interconnected world, resilient communication systems are not only technological necessities but are also vital for national security, disaster management, economic stability, and public welfare.

Speaker Colonel V.S. Tanwar, Director (Technical), Janhit Telecom Pvt. Ltd., highlighted the importance of communication systems in defense services and explained the role of modern military communication systems such as ASCON, AREN, C4I Systems, and satellite communication systems. He stated that effective and reliable communication plays a decisive role in the success of any military operation. He mentioned that compared to earlier military operations, robust and efficient communication systems made a significant contribution in achieving the objectives of “Operation Sindoor.” He defined “resilience” as the ability to adapt, recover, and emerge stronger in difficult situations. He further emphasized that technology plays a crucial role in strengthening resilience and that investing in secure, reliable, and robust communication systems is the need of the hour to make the nation’s digital and strategic infrastructure more capable and secure.

At the end of the program, Honorary Secretary Engineer Piyush Javeria conducted the proceedings gracefully and expressed gratitude to all the guests and contributors for their support and participation.
