####Six-Month-Old Baby Gets a New Lease of Life After Metal Bangle Ornament Removed from Food Pipe

In a remarkable feat of medical expertise, the ENT specialists at Geetanjali Medical College & Hospital, Udaipur successfully removed a metal bangle ornament lodged in the food pipe of a six-month-old baby, saving the infant from a life-threatening situation.

The highly delicate surgery was performed by the ENT team comprising Dr. Anamika, Dr. Himanshu Joshi, and their colleagues, with critical support from Dr. Swapnil from the Anaesthesia Department and Dr. Ramkesh Meena from PICU. OT staff member Mayank and his team also played an essential role in ensuring the procedure went smoothly.

The infant was initially taken to a local hospital after experiencing severe difficulty breathing and an inability to drink milk. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, doctors promptly referred the child to Geetanjali Hospital.

Diagnostic tests at Geetanjali revealed a metal ornament stuck in the baby’s esophagus, which was also exerting dangerous pressure on the windpipe. Given the urgency, ENT surgeon Dr. Anamika was immediately called in. Under the supervision of Dr. Ramkesh Meena, the baby was admitted to the PICU for essential evaluations. Once the foreign object was confirmed, the team swiftly decided to perform a Rigid Esophagoscopy — a minimally invasive telescope-assisted procedure.

Within a short time, the operation was completed successfully, and the metal object was safely removed from the baby’s food pipe. The child is now completely safe and recovering well.

A Vital Message for Parents

Doctors urge parents to keep infants away from small metallic accessories, toys, coins, batteries, and other tiny objects. Accidental ingestion can lead to severe complications and even become life-threatening.
