Demand for Kasautiya Dam to Address Water Crisis, Former MLA Bhindar Urges CM

Udaipur - Former MLA Randeer Singh Bhindar of Vallabhnagar constituency has written a letter to the Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal Sharma, highlighting the issue of water scarcity and urging for the construction of Kasautiya Dam as a permanent solution to deal with the drinking water crisis.

The letter addressed the water crisis in the Mevad region, where several districts are reeling under scarcity due to depleted water levels. The Vallabhnagar constituency in Udaipur district faces the biggest challenge with regards to drinking water availability. Hand pumps and tube wells become ineffective during summers as the water levels plummet drastically. Despite spending millions on water transportation annually, residents are still not receiving adequate supply.

The region also hosts a significant livestock population, which suffers due to insufficient water supply. The previous Congress government had initiated the construction of Jhadu Dam near Bhindar Municipality, which facilitated water supply to the municipality area. However, this year, even that source is nearing depletion.

Bhindar emphasized that merely installing tube wells and hand pumps will not suffice to address the water crisis in the Vallabhnagar constituency. He proposed the construction of Kasautiya Dam near Kasautiya village, capable of impounding 100 to 120 MCF of water, catering to approximately 156 to 182 villages. The previous Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government had allocated funds for feasibility studies, and the DPR was prepared. However, the project was neglected by the subsequent Congress government.

With the BJP back in power, residents of the region are hopeful that their water crisis will be addressed, as promised by the party during their campaigns. Bhindar urged the Chief Minister to approve the Kasautiya Dam project to ensure a permanent solution to the drinking water problem. He reminded the CM of his assurances to provide accessible drinking water in his speeches and requested prompt action on the matter.
