###Massive Station Redevelopment Carried Out Without Disrupting Rail Traffic

India’s station redevelopment mission is advancing at an unprecedented scale in the nation’s history, even as it operates one of the world’s busiest railway networks. Despite immense operational challenges, the Indian Railways continues to modernize stations at record speed—without suspending train services.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that many countries halt rail traffic for three to four years to undertake major reconstruction of stations. But in India, where millions of passengers depend on uninterrupted travel every day, shutting down stations is simply not an option. Yet, redevelopment works are progressing rapidly, with unwavering focus on safety and seamless railway operations.

The Minister stated, “For the first time since Independence, India is witnessing a transformation of such scale in its station infrastructure—an entirely new experience for the nation.” These works demand exceptional planning, coordination, and engineering precision, all executed without affecting daily train movement.

This commitment is most visible under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, through which more than 1,300 stations are being upgraded with an investment exceeding ₹60,000 crore. Already, 160 stations have been redeveloped. From advanced engineering solutions to enhanced passenger amenities, each project follows a well-planned, phased approach—ensuring stations evolve into world-class transport hubs while continuing to serve as the nation’s lifeline.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the redevelopment of 103 Amrit Bharat stations from Bikaner, Rajasthan—marking a major milestone in India’s nationwide modernization drive. Designed with improved façades, enlarged circulation areas, sustainable construction features, and seamless multimodal integration, these stations reflect India’s forward-looking vision for modern, efficient, and passenger-centric rail travel.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme stands as a powerful testament to India’s capability to execute complex infrastructure upgrades at record pace, while giving topmost priority to train operations, passenger convenience, and safety each day.
