The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly has passed the state budget for the financial year 2026–27 following Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s detailed reply to the budget discussion. During his marathon speech of over two hours, the Chief Minister presented a comprehensive outline of the state government’s policies, achievements, and future plans.
Extending Holi greetings to all legislators, he recited a poem themed on the festival and took sharp political aim at the opposition, remarking, “We bring the colors of development.”
In a significant announcement, the Chief Minister declared that the state’s only hill station, Mount Abu, will be renamed Abu Raj in view of public sentiments. Additionally:
Jahazpur (Bhilwara) will be renamed Yagyapur
Kama will be renamed Kamvan
He also announced the construction of:
Shri Yade Panorama at Jhalamand (Jodhpur)
Nagnechiya Mata Panorama at Nagana (Balotra)
Furthermore, ₹16 crore has been sanctioned for a proposed auditorium and Central Hall in the Assembly, and ₹3 crore has been allocated for the Assembly’s Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. Several budget provisions were also announced for MLAs and accredited journalists.
The Chief Minister’s response was not merely a formal reply to the budget debate but was viewed as a political and policy document outlining the government’s development vision and administrative priorities.
He described the budget as a significant step toward realizing the vision of a “Developed Rajasthan,” emphasizing that it is a budget focused on implementation rather than announcements. He stated that work has already begun on most schemes and assured that development activities are progressing while maintaining financial discipline.
Employment generation and the future of youth were highlighted as key priorities. The Chief Minister reiterated the acceleration of government recruitment processes and the implementation of a departmental recruitment calendar. Skill development programs will be expanded, and youth will be encouraged toward self-employment. He emphasized that increased investment in the state will create more job opportunities.
Referring to the “Rising Rajasthan” initiative, he said that the state has received large-scale investment proposals, and the government’s priority is to implement them on the ground. New industrial areas will be developed, and industries will be provided a conducive environment. He reaffirmed the goal of making Rajasthan a major economic force by 2047.
Infrastructure development remains a central pillar of the budget. The Chief Minister announced expansion of rural and urban roads, improvements in urban traffic management, speedy completion of drinking water projects, and strengthening of electricity supply. He stressed that expanding basic facilities is essential for balanced development.
Irrigation projects will be prioritized to ensure adequate water supply for farmers. The government is committed to providing electricity for agriculture and making farming more profitable. The overall objective is to increase farmers’ income and strengthen the agricultural sector.
Tourism was described as a crucial pillar of the state economy. Special emphasis will be placed on promoting religious tourism and upgrading facilities at major pilgrimage sites. The aim is to generate employment at the local level through tourism development.
Regarding social security schemes, the Chief Minister stated that welfare programs for the poor and vulnerable sections will continue. Special focus will be placed on effective implementation of schemes for women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
The Chief Minister highlighted improved financial management and revenue performance while maintaining fiscal discipline.
He stated that Rajasthan’s per capita income is set to rise to ₹2,02,349 for the first time, marking an approximate 21.15% increase over ₹1,67,027 in 2023–24. The total budget outlay for 2026–27 stands at ₹6,10,956 crore, which is about 41% higher than in 2023–24.
He credited the leadership of Narendra Modi for guiding reforms and innovation, stating that Rajasthan is progressing steadily toward becoming a developed state and contributing as a growth engine toward India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The Chief Minister also spoke about the Ram Jal Setu Link Project, stating that work is progressing on bringing Yamuna water to the Shekhawati region. The DPR process is nearing completion, pipeline alignment surveys have been conducted, and consent has been received from the Haryana government. He asserted that the government will ensure that the people and farmlands of Shekhawati receive Yamuna water.
Following the Chief Minister’s address, Speaker Vasudev Devnani passed the Rajasthan Budget 2026–27 by voice vote in the Assembly.
Overall, the Chief Minister’s reply centered on development, investment, employment, and infrastructure. While few major new schemes were announced, the government emphasized effective implementation of previously declared initiatives. The speech is being seen as an important indication of the government’s roadmap for the coming years.
