Udaipur. In today’s fast-paced world, people are so caught up in their personal struggles that they hardly realize how carelessly they treat their own health. Rajendra Ranka often says, “If you and I don’t take care of our health, then even millions or billions of rupees are worthless.” And he is absolutely right.
Today, I want to introduce you to this remarkable personality — Rajendra Ranka — from whom I have been drawing inspiration for months while walking with him in Gulab Bagh.
An Inspiring Figure of Gulab Bagh
Every morning and evening, a truly motivating and exemplary personality walks through Udaipur’s Gulab Bagh. His smile, humility, discipline, and politeness fill every visitor and walker with positive energy.
Even at the age of 65, his lifestyle and routine are so impressive that they inspire everyone around him, especially the youth.
For many years, Ranka has been visiting Gulab Bagh daily — not just for a walk, but to stay close to nature and maintain his health. Every day, he spends 5 to 7 hours amidst the greenery of Gulab Bagh. He walks, practices yoga, runs, and most beautifully, greets everyone he meets with a warm smile, saying “Jai Siyaram” or “Jai Jagannath.” He also helps senior pensioners he meets on the path by assisting them in resolving various issues.
Service as a Way of Life
Service is his natural instinct.
Ranka not only walks regularly at Gulab Bagh but also serves many senior citizens he meets there. He assists them selflessly, without any fee or desire for recognition. His pure, dedicated spirit is reflected in everything he does — helping retired pensioners with online tasks, motivating friends about their health through regular phone calls, supporting Jain monks and saints in their routines, studying religious texts, and offering help wherever needed.
He remains ready to serve 24 hours a day.
A Personality Nurtured by Values; Discipline as His Life Mantra
Ranka was born in Kanod, a town known for its educational culture. The soil of Kanod gave him the priceless values of simplicity, religious devotion, humility, and service. Discipline is his life mantra — clearly visible in his daily conduct.
He served in the government sector and retired with respect from the post of Deputy Treasury Officer at Mavli and Vallabhnagar.
Though he is 65, his discipline and routine are extraordinary, reflecting his immense willpower. He often laughs and says, “I will stay healthy for at least 150 years and continue enjoying the company of Gulab Bagh. My medicine is not tablets — it is discipline, happiness, and service.”
He wakes up at 3 a.m. every day, practices yoga, prioritizes his wife and family, and never stops appreciating them. He considers breathing the fresh oxygen of Gulab Bagh his birthright and staying close to nature his natural habit.
His daily routine includes walking around 20 kilometers, treating everyone with courtesy, greeting all with a smile, engaging in spiritual learning, and wholeheartedly serving Jain monks.
Serving Retired Pensioners — His Innate Duty
Seeing everyone healthy is his core principle.
I feel fortunate to walk with him every day, listen to his experiences, and learn from his positive thinking. Whether he speaks about spirituality, religion, motivational stories, life experiences, or discipline — every word carries deep meaning.
A Heartfelt Salute to Such a Personality
Nature-love, selfless service, honesty, discipline, and humility — these five qualities together make Rajendra Ranka a truly exceptional person.
We, his walking companions — Madanlal Sharma, Kundan Bhatewara, Sanjay Bhandari, and I (R.C. Mehta) — feel proud of him, learn from him, and consider him our guide. He desires neither position nor recognition. His simplicity, integrity, service spirit, and positive energy make him one of the most respected and beloved individuals in society.
Those of us who walk with him in Gulab Bagh every day consider ourselves fortunate, because we learn from him to smile, live simply, stay stress-free, practice our faith, and prioritize our health.
