Unveiling the Changing Dynamics of Womanhood and Duplicity of Manhood: A Short Play on World Theatre Day

On the occasion of World Theatre Day, a short play titled "You'll Remain the Same" was staged at the Pundit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium, organized by the Original Organization of Creative and Performing Arts and the UGC Women's Studies Center, Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur. The play shed light on the changing dynamics of womanhood and the duplicity of manhood.

The play portrayed the dilemmas faced by women in society through the lens of Indian masculinity. It vividly depicted the dual characters of men who struggle to accept changing societal norms. The dialogue, delivered in simple language reminiscent of everyday conversations, effectively brought out the complexities of situations found in any household. The husband's monologues, directed towards his wife, served as an endless barrage of complaints, openly expressed to her. He constantly found faults with every aspect of his wife, who presented herself in various forms, none of which he was willing to accept. Thus, he repeatedly asserted that she would remain the same, meaning, unsuitable for him in every way.

The main attraction of the play was the lively performance by Jatin Bharwani, a young actor from the original organization. He impeccably portrayed the character of a husband who incessantly belittles his wife by constantly seeking out her flaws. The conceptualization and direction by Shivraj Sonawal effectively presented the dialogue with its dignity and original emotions. The audience praised the performances, direction, and the message conveyed through the play.

Mahesh Ameta, President of the Original Organization, provided information about World Theatre Day and extended his best wishes. Sudha Arora, the playwright, thanked the director and actors for their efforts, emphasizing that the story is not just about a man constantly speaking while a woman remains silent. Each dialogue leaves ample room for interpretation between the lines. The story reflects the changing nature of womanhood and the inherent characteristics of manhood. Despite the title "You'll Remain the Same," there's an underlying satire suggesting that while women are evolving, men remain stagnant. The need for men to change remains eternal. When will that change come? This question remains timeless.

In conclusion, Dr. Garima Mishra from the Women's Studies Center extended her wishes for World Theatre Day and expressed gratitude to all participants, guests, and audiences.

Contributions were also made by Renuka Jajot in music direction, Tamanna Goyal in stage management, Shibli Khan in production management, Gunisha Makol in set design, Kuldeep in stage props, Tanvi Bijarniya in costumes, and Shubham Sharma in camera and videography.
