Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery Showing Highly Positive Results

Udaipur: Dr. Ashish Singhal, Consultant Robotic Knee Replacement Surgeon at Paras Health Hospital, stated that consulting a specialist at the early onset of knee pain can help prevent further deterioration of the joints.

He was speaking at a talk titled “All About the Knee Joint” organized by Rotary Club of Udaipur at Rotary Bajaj Bhawan. Dr. Singhal highlighted that due to unhealthy habits and lack of regular exercise, nearly 30% of patients under the age of 30 are now experiencing knee-related problems. He explained that the pain caused by the wear and tear of joints is known as osteoarthritis.

Dr. Singhal said that knee pain and cracking sounds while bending the knee are early signs of osteoarthritis. Age, genetics, and body weight play significant roles in knee osteoarthritis. While age and genetics are beyond control, maintaining a healthy weight is in one’s hands and should be given serious attention. As cartilage wears down, knee pain increases, and nearly 97% of patients experience pain on the inner side of the knee.

To avoid knee surgery, he advised reducing body weight—pointing out that losing just 1 kilogram reduces the load on the knee joint by seven times. He also recommended cycling as a beneficial exercise and advised patients with knee pain to avoid sitting cross-legged or squatting.

Dr. Singhal further stated that robotic knee replacement surgery has shown very positive outcomes. Over the past two years, more than 1,600 robotic knee surgeries have been successfully performed at the hospital. He emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition, reduced mobile phone usage, correct sports techniques, proper running posture, and regular exercise.

Earlier, Club President Deepak Mehta welcomed the speaker and remarked that with the rising incidence of knee problems, timely medical consultation is essential. Mrs. Rajendra Chauhan presented an invocation song. Assistant Governor Anil Nahar introduced Dr. Singhal, while M.C. Singhvi presented him with a memento. The vote of thanks was delivered by Joint Secretary Surendra Jain. Several Rotary members were present at the event.
