Udaipur: The 77th Shri Ekling Diwan of Mewar, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Chairman and Managing Trustee of the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation, carried forward Mewar’s glorious centuries-old traditions by performing the ceremonial Holika Deepan amid Vedic chants by priests and according to traditional rituals. The occasion holds special cultural and spiritual significance in the Mewar region.
The festival was held at the historic Manek Chowk in the City Palace Udaipur and was celebrated in accordance with ancient royal customs in a simple yet deeply reverential and dignified manner. Dressed in traditional royal attire, Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar arrived at Manek Chowk with his ceremonial entourage, where he was accorded the traditional “Maharana Salute” by the palace guards.
During the Vedic Holika worship ceremony, he performed the rituals with due reverence, draped the Holika with a ceremonial odhni, and offered a garland, coconut (shrifal), and other sacred items. He then circumambulated the Holika along with members of the royal family before formally lighting the sacred fire.
On this auspicious occasion, saints and mahants from various temples and monasteries across the Mewar region were specially honored with garlands and offerings. The spiritual leaders blessed the region with wishes for prosperity and progress and bestowed traditional tokens of goodwill.
The celebrations also featured the traditional Gair folk dance, with local artists presenting a vibrant glimpse of Mewari culture, along with the customary playing of Phool Phag (celebration with flowers).
Blending devotion with culture, this enduring tradition remains a symbol of Mewar’s ancient royal dignity and continues to stand as a powerful testament to the region’s rich and living cultural heritage.
