Advanced Maize Farming Training and Input Distribution Held in Sangwa Village

UDAIPUR, Under the All India Maize Research Project at MPUAT, a one-day Maize Field Day was organized in Sangwa village, attracting 100 farmers from various nearby villages to learn advanced maize cultivation techniques.

The program was graced by eminent agricultural scientists including Dr. Shankar Lal Jat (ICAR-Indian Maize Research Institute, Ludhiana), Dr. R.L. Soni (Director, Extension Education), Dr. Amit Dadheech (Project In-Charge), Dr. Jwala Jindal (Entomologist, Punjab Agricultural University), Dr. N. Mallika Arjun (Plant & Disease Scientist, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru), Dr. I. Sudheer Kumar (Plant Breeder, Andhra Pradesh), Dr. Harish Kumar Sumeria (Crop Scientist), Dr. Ramesh Babu (Entomologist), Dr. Ram Narayan Kumhar (Nematode, Plant & Disease Scientist), and Prahlad Singh Jhala (Agriculture Officer, Rajasthan Government).

Dr. Amit Dadheech welcomed the participants and highlighted the university’s new maize varieties, emphasizing maize as a key crop for Mewar and motivating farmers to increase production. Dr. Harish Kumar Sumeria explained first-row planting techniques, while Dr. Jwala Jindal shared detailed pest control methods. Dr. N. Mallikarjun from Karnataka guided farmers on disease management, and Dr. I. Sudheer Kumar discussed advanced maize farming practices in Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. R.L. Soni explained how farmers can double their income using maize alongside other techniques. Dr. Ram Narayan Kumhar advised on identifying pests, nematodes, and diseases and using the correct treatments at the right time. Dr. Shankar Lal Jat addressed common challenges in advanced maize cultivation, market strategies, and processing opportunities for maize-based products.

The program concluded with the distribution and training on hand-operated weed removal machines to all participating farmers, ensuring practical adoption of modern techniques.
