Significant Initiative to Empower Rural Youth: E-Learning Facilities at Atal Knowledge Centers

Sri Ganganagar: Under the initiative of Hon’ble Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the establishment of Atal Knowledge Centers at the Gram Panchayat level marks a visionary and significant step toward empowering rural youth. These centers will provide employment-oriented training through mentors, helping youth develop their skills and become self-reliant.

In addition, to promote self-learning, preparation for competitive exams, and reading habits among the general public in rural areas, e-library facilities will be developed at these centers.

In the Finance and Appropriation Bill (Budget 2026-27), Chief Minister Sharma announced on February 27, 2026, the establishment of 1,000 additional Atal Knowledge Centers in the upcoming financial year. Financial approval has already been issued for setting up over 1,800 such centers in rural areas of the state. These centers will provide rural youth preparing for competitive exams and interested in studying with facilities similar to urban areas, saving both time and money. By bridging the gap between education and technology, these centers will effectively enhance learning opportunities in villages.

Atal Knowledge Centers will also inform citizens about various government services and schemes, enabling them to access online services and benefit from programs within their own villages. Establishing centers at the Gram Panchayat level will make administrative processes more transparent and accessible, further integrating rural youth into the mainstream.

The e-library at each center will provide digital access to general books and educational materials. With computer and internet facilities, youth can pursue online learning. Special sections will be dedicated to competitive exam preparation. Career counseling and capacity-building programs will also be an integral part of the centers. Each center will house an e-Mitra and a Common Service Center to help citizens access government welfare schemes.

Each center will be managed by a trained Atal Prerak, a local youth specially trained to oversee daily operations and assist citizens, thereby creating local employment opportunities. These centers are envisioned not only as educational hubs but also as agents of social change.

It is noteworthy that the Atal Knowledge Center scheme was announced by Chief Minister Sharma on December 25, 2024, on Good Governance Day, which also marks the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The state government is establishing these centers in a phased manner across Gram Panchayats, equipped with libraries and e-learning facilities.
