Chief Minister’s Sensitive Initiative Bringing Pilgrimage Benefits to Senior Citizens

Sri Ganganagar: Due to the sensitive initiative of Hon’ble Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, senior citizens are now receiving the benefit of pilgrimage travel under the state government’s senior citizen pilgrimage scheme.

The scheme, operated by the Government of Rajasthan, has emerged as a compassionate initiative for the elderly. Its objective is to provide senior citizens with the opportunity to visit major religious pilgrimage sites across India, enabling them to experience spiritual balance, mental peace, and satisfaction in life.

For economically weaker sections in particular, the scheme is proving to be a blessing, allowing them to fulfill their religious aspirations without financial burden. Under the budget announcement, a total of 56,000 pilgrims will be selected this year, including 50,000 travelers by train and 6,000 by air.

During the journey, all necessary facilities such as free food, accommodation, medical care, and security are provided, ensuring a comfortable and safe experience for the pilgrims.

To ensure transparency and efficiency, the government has adopted a structured selection process. Interested applicants can apply both online and offline, while beneficiaries are selected through a lottery system to ensure equal opportunity for all eligible candidates. Generally, residents of Rajasthan aged 60 years or above are eligible for the scheme.

Throughout the journey, trained staff, medical teams, and coordinated administrative support ensure the safety and comfort of senior citizens. Strong inter-departmental coordination has made the operation smooth and well-organized, increasing public trust in the scheme.

Every year, thousands of senior citizens travel to major pilgrimage sites such as Haridwar, Varanasi, Rameswaram, and Dwarka. The satisfaction and happiness seen on their faces after the pilgrimage is the true measure of the scheme’s success.

This initiative not only provides a religious experience but also instills a sense of dignity and self-respect among the elderly. It also sends a message to the younger generation about the importance of respecting and caring for senior citizens as a social responsibility.

The Senior Citizen Pilgrimage Scheme is a visionary and humanitarian initiative of the state government that embodies the values of “service, respect, and faith.”
