State-Level Chess Tournament for the Visually Impaired Begins Wednesday in Udaipur
Governor of Punjab Gulab Chand Kataria to Inaugurate the Three-Day Championship

Udaipur, June 3: A state-level chess competition for visually impaired children and youth is set to commence on Wednesday in Udaipur, organized by Samidha Drishti-Divyanga Mission. According to mission founder Dr. Chandragupt Singh Chauhan, the three-day event will be inaugurated at Kisan Bhawan, located near the Reti Stand of the Agricultural Produce Market, at 3:30 PM in the esteemed presence of Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria.

The championship, scheduled from June 4 to 6, marks Udaipur’s first of its kind and features a specially designed chessboard and pieces that participants can feel and use to make strategic moves. The event has drawn visually impaired participants from nearly all districts of Rajasthan. Comprehensive arrangements for accommodation, food, and other facilities have been made for the players.

Dr. Chauhan stated that the primary aim behind organizing this tournament in Udaipur is to draw the attention of both the state and central governments towards the need for enhanced sports infrastructure that supports the mental growth and artistic talents of visually impaired children, especially in today’s tech-driven era. The initiative also seeks to steer children and youth away from mobile addiction and toward constructive activities like sports that can help unveil their hidden potential.

Akash Vagrecha, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, informed that the inaugural ceremony will be graced by Tribal Area Development Minister Babulal Kharadi, Nimbahera MLA Shrichand Kriplani, and Udaipur City MLA Tarachand Jain as special guests.

During the tournament and at the closing ceremony, prominent leaders including MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat, Rajya Sabha MP Chunnilal Garasiya, Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena, Mavli MLA Pushkar Dangi, Vallabhnagar MLA Udaylal Dangi, and Gogunda MLA Pratap Gameti are expected to attend.

Tournament Director Mukesh Jat shared that 73 visually impaired children are participating in the competition. Remarkably, even the panel of referees includes visually impaired judges arriving from Ajmer and other regions, showcasing true empowerment and inclusivity.
