Udaipur’s national pistol shooter Surendra Singh Deora has brought pride to Mewar by winning the individual silver medal in the 10m pistol (Deaf Category) at the All India G.V. Mavlankar Pistol Shooting Championship, held at the Military & Rifle Club, Khanpur, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Rajasthan team manager and Surendra’s coach, Dr. Jitendra Singh Maida, informed that Surendra began training under him three years ago. With dedication, discipline and consistent hard work, Surendra has now secured this remarkable achievement. Shooters at the Mewar Rifle Shooting Club greatly admire him for his determination.
Dr. Maida shared an interesting incident from the competition day—Surendra lost his way and reached a location nearly 50 km away from the venue. The coach personally picked him up in his car and managed to bring him to the range just in time for sighters, enabling him to compete and win the medal. Earlier, Surendra had won a gold medal at Open India Goa and a silver at the North Zone Championship in Delhi. He will next participate in the National Championships scheduled in Delhi this December.
Surendra comes from a supportive family: his father Nirbhay Singh Deora is an electronic engineer, his mother Paras Kunwar is a homemaker, and his younger brother Bhupendra Singh Deora works in property and finance. Surendra completed his schooling from the Deaf & Mute School, Ambamata, and currently trains at the Mewar Rifle Shooting Club, Gunjol, Nathdwara.
The Mewar Rifle Shooting Club extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Surendra Singh Deora for his outstanding achievement and continued success in the sport.
