Udaipur: In commemoration of the founder of the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal , the late Padma Shri Devidas Samar, a diverse array of programs is being organized. As part of these events, the first day of a two-day Folk Theatre Festival featured an emotive performance by the renowned folk artist, Amar Singh Rathore.
Dr. Laik Husain, Director of the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal , shared that the inauguration of the two-day Folk Theatre Festival, organized jointly by the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal , Udaipur, and the Rajasthan Music and Drama Academy, Jodhpur, took place on December 8, 2023. The main guests for the program were Mrs. Binaka Jaish Malu, Chairperson of the Rajasthan Music and Drama Academy, Jodhpur, Ramesh Baurana, Senior Dramatist, and Satya Prakash Gaur, Honorary Secretary of the Indian Folk Arts Society, who paid floral tributes and lit lamps in memory of Padma Shri Devidas Samar.
He further mentioned that on the first day of the Folk Theatre Festival, the emotive presentation of Rajasthan's renowned folk artist Amar Singh Rathore took place in the Kuchamani Khayal style under the direction of senior folk artist Bansilal Khiladi.
Amar Singh Rathore, a legendary figure in the medieval history of Rajasthan, was the son of Raja Gaj Singh I of the Rathore dynasty. Despite being the eldest son of Gaj Singh Ji, after Gaj Singh Ji's demise, Amar Singh could not ascend the throne of Marwar. He was expelled from Marwar and sought refuge with the Mughals. Shah Jahan granted him the jagir of Nagaur. However, Amar Singh was a man of independent thoughts and self-respect. He was ousted from Marwar and went to the Mughals. Shah Jahan granted him the estate of Nagaur. Despite being the eldest son, Amar Singh could not sit on the Marwar throne. He was expelled from Marwar and went to the Mughals. Shah Jahan granted him the jagir of Nagaur. Amar Singh was a man of independent and self-respecting nature.
In recognition of Amar Singh Rathore's bravery, Shah Jahan appointed him as the commander of a 3000-horse army, conferring titles like 'Mansab' and 'Rawat' upon him. Nagaur, a free estate, was controlled by Shah Jahan's throne. Amar Singh Rathore's growing stature did not sit well with many courtiers, and attempts were made to undermine him.
The highlight of the event was the honoring of folk theatre artist Shri Bansilal Khiladi by the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal with the 'Padma Shri Devidas Samar Smriti Lifetime Achievement Award' for the year 2023.
In conclusion, it was announced that on the second day of the Folk Theatre Festival, scheduled for December 9, 2023, at 7:00 PM at the Mukhtakashii Rangmanch, the artists from Gausunda, Chittorgarh, would present 'Rani Phulwanti' in the Turra Kalangi style.
