New Delhi,  The 56th meeting of the GST Council was convened on Wednesday at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan, New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The session witnessed extensive deliberations on making the country’s taxation system more transparent, simplified, and citizen-friendly.

Representing Rajasthan, State Minister K.K. Bishnoi strongly articulated the state’s stance. He highlighted that discussions particularly focused on how the GST system could be made more convenient and organized for both traders and ordinary citizens. The agenda also included matters such as necessary revisions in tax rates, exemptions and concessions, relief measures for small businesses, and enhanced use of technology to facilitate honest taxpayers and ensure transparency.

Minister Bishnoi observed that the forthcoming corrective reforms in the GST system would not only reduce complexities in tax administration but also significantly strengthen the revenue collection of state governments, enabling them to extend greater facilities to the public.

He further emphasized that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the historic tax framework of GST has fortified the nation’s economy by advancing the principle of “One Nation, One Tax.” According to him, GST has simplified the process of doing business while simultaneously strengthening the financial position of states.

Expressing optimism, Minister Bishnoi affirmed that the proposed reforms will prove beneficial for both citizens and businesses, while also propelling the Indian economy towards new speed and higher growth.

The meeting was attended by Chief Ministers and Finance Ministers of various states, the Revenue Secretary, the Chairperson and Members of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), along with senior officials of the Ministry of Finance.
