Udaipur witnessed a rare and historic spiritual moment as the revered Somnath Shivling united with Mahakal at the ancient Mahakal Temple, filling the city with devotion, reverence, and powerful emotion. Thousands of devotees gathered to witness this sacred union — a moment many described as a blessing of a lifetime.


The day began with a grand spiritual procession that set the entire atmosphere aglow with devotion. As the Somnath Shivling Yatra reached Udaipur, the idol fragments were placed in a beautifully adorned chariot alongside Swami Paramanandaji Maharaj. Draped in white attire, male devotees walked in disciplined reverence, while women dressed gracefully in shades of white and pink accompanied the sacred journey from Radaji Chauraha to the Mahakal Temple. The streets echoed with chants, devotion-filled dance, and the sound of drums and nagadas, as every passerby bowed respectfully before the Shivling.


When the procession entered the sanctum of the Mahakal Temple, the air turned truly divine. The resonant chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Somnath Mahakal ki Jai” reverberated through the temple courtyard as the sacred union of the two Shivlings was ceremonially performed. Many devotees were moved to tears as they witnessed this extraordinary spiritual moment, their hearts overflowing with devotion and gratitude.

Following the union, the Somnath Shivling was placed with reverence upon a special throne in a beautifully decorated pavilion within the temple garden. Offerings of laddoo and kheer were made, and devotees received darshan in turn. The evening unfolded with Vedic rituals led by priests from Bengaluru, including Rudra Puja and the majestic Maharudrabhishek, accompanied by sacred chants that immersed the entire gathering in spiritual energy. The atmosphere grew even more devotional as bhajan-kirtan filled the night, and prasad was lovingly distributed among devotees.

This historic event also carried with it a legacy stretching across centuries. After the attack on Somnath Temple in 1026 CE, eleven fragments of the Shivling were safeguarded by Agnihotri Brahmins and preserved in southern India for generations. Nearly a thousand years later, these sacred fragments were entrusted to Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who began the Somnath Shivling Bharat Yatra so that millions across the nation could receive its darshan and blessings.

From afternoon until nightfall, the Mahakal Temple complex remained immersed in devotion — its courtyards alive with faith, reverence, and the timeless spirit of Mahadev. For Udaipur, it was not just a religious ceremony, but a living moment in history — a divine convergence of heritage, devotion, and eternal spiritual grace.
