Udaipur: The three-day ‘Ritu Vasant’ festival, organized by the West Zone Cultural Centre (Udaipur), will commence on Friday at Shilpgram. Renowned classical vocalists and dancers of national and international acclaim will present performances that promise to enthrall lovers of Indian classical music and dance. The festival will continue until February 22, and entry will be free for all.
Centre Director Furkan Khan informed that the festival will open with a flute recital by Chetan Joshi and a Kathak performance by Gauri Diwakar. On the second day, Saturday, Gulzar Hussain and Mohammad Umar will present an enchanting violin–dilruba jugalbandi, followed by an Odissi dance performance by Kavita Dwibedi.
On the concluding day, Sunday, renowned Kirana gharana vocalist Dr. Jayateerth Mevundi will render a soulful evening recital at Shilpgram. Widely regarded as one of the leading exponents of the Kirana tradition, Dr. Mevundi has played a significant role in elevating Hindustani classical music to new heights. Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar had personally praised his singing and invited him to record for her music label. Noted composer A. R. Rahman also remarked in an interview that Mevundi’s voice carries “the energy of lightning” capable of mesmerizing any listener. Today, Dr. Mevundi continues to infuse new vitality into the rich tradition of Indian classical music.
‘Nritya Pravah’ to Present a Confluence of Classical Dance Forms
Director Furkan Khan further shared that on the final day, a special highlight will be ‘Nritya Pravah,’ a captivating production directed by Delhi-based renowned choreographer Santosh Nair. This vibrant and emotive presentation will showcase a grand confluence of India’s rich and diverse classical dance traditions.
The performance will feature Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Kathak, Mohiniyattam, and Manipuri Raas, offering classical dance enthusiasts a visually and aesthetically enriching experience. The assistant choreographer for the production will be Vishnupriya Marar, with lighting design by Shriram Sankhla.
