Udaipur: A high-level delegation from UNICEF, visiting Udaipur to study initiatives in the field of child protection, paid a courtesy visit to Inspector General of Police Gaurav Srivastava on Tuesday. Superintendent of Police (Udaipur) Yogesh Goyal and Superintendent of Police (Rajsamand) Hemant Kalal were also present on the occasion.

The UNICEF delegation included Chief of UNICEF India Milen Kidane, Mental Health Specialist Jyoti, Rajasthan Head Lakshmi Narasimha Rao, Child Protection Specialist Sanjay Kumar Nirala, Child Protection Officer Himali Leuva, and Child Protection Consultant for Udaipur Range Sindhu Binujeet.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on various issues related to child safety, education, and overall development. The delegation appreciated the efforts of the police administration in protecting child rights, eliminating child labor, and preventing crimes against children, including cybercrime.

IG Gaurav Srivastava praised UNICEF’s work and emphasized that coordination between administration and international organizations is essential to ensure child protection and a secure future for children. He noted that UNICEF has been doing commendable work at the range level in this field.

He further highlighted that, with UNICEF’s support, the police department has been conducting training programs and awareness activities to enhance the capacity of its personnel and associated groups such as Suraksha Sakhis, Police Mitras, and Gram Rakshaks, while keeping them informed about new legal provisions.

The IG also shared information about innovative initiatives at the range level, including efforts to connect youth CLGs (Community Liaison Groups) with skill development, a unique road safety awareness campaign in Banswara, and recent training programs on cyber safety awareness.

He suggested that UNICEF develop a structured action plan for the continued implementation of such programs and assured full cooperation from the police department in matters related to child protection.
