Jaipur. The Hotel Institute of Southern Rajasthan has submitted a letter to the Principal Secretary and Director of the Local Bodies Department, Government of Rajasthan, seeking immediate directions to implement the ten-year hotel license renewal process in Udaipur.

Institute Secretary Rakesh Choudhary stated that the state government had issued an order in 2015 approving the renewal of hotel licenses for a ten-year period. The Udaipur Municipal Corporation had earlier implemented this directive and renewed licenses accordingly. Furthermore, in 2017, the state government revised the renewal fees and even introduced a provision of a 20% concession for one-time deposits. On 20th September 2024, the Corporation had also invited applications for ten-year renewals.

However, on 31st December 2024, the Udaipur Municipal Corporation wrote to the Director seeking guidance on the matter, despite the government’s clear instructions. This correspondence has since remained pending. Such repeated demands for guidance, despite explicit orders, remain inexplicable. It is noteworthy that all other municipal bodies in Rajasthan are already implementing the ten-year renewal system, while only Udaipur has halted the process. This uncertainty has left hoteliers in confusion and is also causing significant revenue loss to the state exchequer.

The letter emphasized the need for the department to issue immediate directives so that the Udaipur Municipal Corporation may proceed with the renewal process, thereby providing much-needed relief to hotel businesses.

During discussions, the Director assured that the necessary guidance would be issued shortly. The representation in Jaipur was jointly made by Institute President Subhash Singh Ranawat and Secretary Rakesh Choudhary.
