Tribal Farmers to Gain Additional Income Through Poultry Farming and Mushroom Cultivation: Dr. Meena

Udaipur . Under Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur, the Directorate of Research, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), organized a one-day training programme on poultry farming on 19 November 2025. The event was conducted under the Scheduled Tribe Sub-Plan in village Gadavan, Tehsil Rishabhdev, District Udaipur.

During the training, Professor Dr. Narayanlal Meena emphasized that along with poultry farming, mushroom cultivation can significantly enhance farmers’ income. According to Dr. Meena, tribal farmers can increase their earnings by integrating mushroom cultivation with poultry farming. He explained that mushroom farming requires low investment and serves as a reliable source of additional income. The government is also promoting mushroom cultivation by providing subsidies and training, which will strengthen the economic condition of farmers.

Dr. Meena highlighted several key benefits of mushroom farming, including:

• High production in limited space,

• Government assistance ranging from 40–90%,

• Additional income alongside traditional agriculture,

• Employment opportunities for rural women and youth.

A total of 50 trainees participated in the programme. Each farmer was also provided with 20 chicks of the Pratap Dhan poultry breed.
