Udaipur: Snoring and breathing interruptions during sleep in children are often considered normal and overlooked. However, these symptoms may indicate a serious health condition. To raise awareness about the issue, paediatric and child dental specialist Dr. Chirag Agrawal conducted an awareness seminar on Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) at Cross Road International School. The seminar provided parents and teachers with important information about the symptoms, causes, treatment and long-term effects of the condition.

Dr. Chirag Agrawal explained that Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a serious condition in which a child experiences repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep. Due to a lack of awareness, many children do not receive timely treatment. The condition can affect sleep quality, breathing, behaviour, academic performance, and the child's physical and mental development.

He said that loud snoring during sleep, sleeping with the mouth open, mouth breathing, bedwetting at night, excessive daytime sleepiness, or unusually high levels of hyperactivity can be possible signs of the condition. If such symptoms are observed, parents should consult a qualified specialist for proper evaluation.

Dr. Agrawal highlighted that early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can effectively manage Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Timely treatment can improve a child's sleep and breathing patterns while also supporting overall physical and mental development.

Parents and teachers participated enthusiastically in the seminar and gained valuable information about recognising the condition at an early stage.
