Udaipur: The results of the Udaipur Municipal Corporation Election 2026 have once again established the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the dominant political force in the city. In the officially declared results for all 80 wards, the BJP emerged victorious in 53 wards, securing a clear majority. The Congress won 23 wards, while three wards went to Independent candidates and one ward was won by CPI(M).

With 53 seats, the BJP has secured 12 seats more than the 41-seat majority mark and has established a comfortable position to form the next municipal board. The BJP's margin over the Congress stands at a substantial 30 seats.

BJP Captures 66.25% of the Wards

The final ward-wise tally highlights the scale of the BJP's victory:

The BJP's 53 seats give it nearly two-thirds of the entire House, while Congress has emerged as the principal opposition party with 23 councillors.

67.26% Voter Turnout

The election also witnessed substantial voter participation across Udaipur. Out of 4,16,143 registered voters, a total of 2,79,905 votes were cast, resulting in a voter turnout of 67.26%.

The election was conducted across 80 wards and 410 polling booths, with 220 candidates contesting the municipal elections. Counting was conducted at the Rajasthan Agricultural College premises in Surajpole.

A Decisive Mandate for BJP

The result represents a clear electoral advantage for the BJP. While Congress managed to secure 23 wards, it remained 30 seats behind the BJP, leaving the opposition well short of the majority required to control the House.

The election also saw a mix of direct BJP-Congress contests and triangular battles involving Independent and other candidates. In several wards, local issues, candidate profiles and organisational strength played an important role in determining the outcome.

BJP Improves on Its 2019 Performance

The 2026 result also marks an improvement for the BJP in terms of the number of seats won. In the 2019 Udaipur Municipal Corporation election, when the corporation had 70 wards, the BJP had won 44 seats, Congress 20, CPI(M) 1 and Independents 5.

In 2026, with the number of wards increased to 80, the BJP has raised its tally to 53 seats, an increase of nine seats. Congress has also improved from 20 to 23 seats, while Independent representation has declined from five to three. CPI(M) has retained its single seat.

Because the number of wards increased from 70 to 80 between the two elections, the raw seat figures should be viewed in that context.

Focus Now Shifts to Mayor and Deputy Mayor Elections

With the election results now officially declared, attention will turn to the formation of the new municipal board. The scheduled election for the Mayor is on September 21, 2026, followed by the Deputy Mayor election on September 22.

With 53 councillors, the BJP is comfortably placed to control the House. The next major political question will therefore be who the party chooses to lead the corporation as Mayor and what priorities the new board sets for the city.

A Strong Mandate, and a Bigger Responsibility

The 2026 verdict gives the BJP a strong mandate in Udaipur Municipal Corporation. With 53 of 80 seats, the party has not only crossed the majority mark comfortably but has also established a 30-seat lead over Congress.

The new board will now face the task of converting this electoral mandate into effective urban governance, with issues such as roads, cleanliness, traffic management, drinking water, drainage, urban expansion, tourism and civic infrastructure likely to remain high on the city's agenda.

The final verdict is clear: BJP 53, Congress 23, Independents 3 and CPI(M) 1. Udaipur has given the BJP a decisive mandate to lead the 80-member Municipal Corporation for the next term.
