Udaipur, Marking World Suicide Prevention Day, the Psychiatric Nursing Department of Geetanjali College and School of Nursing, Udaipur, organised an awareness programme aimed at promoting mental health awareness and encouraging open conversations around emotional well-being. The programme was based on this year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative on Suicide – Start the Conversation.” The programme was attended by Prof. Dr. Alok Rawat, Principal, Geetanjali College of Nursing; Prof. Dr. Dinesh Kumar Sharma, Principal, Geetanjali School of Nursing; Administrative Officer Prof. Kamlesh Joshi; Academic In-charge and Head of Department Prof. Dr. Jayesh Patidar; along with heads of various departments and faculty members. Around 150 students participated in the programme. Prof. Dr. Alok Rawat spoke about the impact of suicidal thoughts and emphasised the importance of timely support and appropriate interventions. Prof. Dr. Dinesh Kumar Sharma highlighted the value of life and stressed the need to create an environment where people feel comfortable discussing their problems and seeking help. During the interactive sessions, Prof. Dr. Jayesh Patidar explained the significance of this year’s theme and the role of meaningful conversations in suicide prevention. Prof. Dr. Dinesh Kumar Sharma discussed suicide risk factors and warning signs, while Prof. Harendra Gehlot explained how to identify people who may be at risk and the importance of communicating with them empathetically and offering appropriate support. As part of the awareness campaign, students staged a street play at Ashadham Ashram, Udaipur, focusing on suicide prevention and mental health awareness. The initiative sought to convey the importance of recognising emotional distress and extending timely support to those facing difficulties. The programme also featured creative activities, with students participating in singing, dancing and drawing. Refreshments were distributed among the participants. Certificates were presented to students who participated in the street play in recognition of their contribution to the awareness initiative. The programme was coordinated by the Mental Health Nursing Department. At the conclusion of the programme, Associate Professor Harendra Gehlot proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the guests, faculty members and students for their active participation and support.
