Udaipur: Players of St. Anthony Senior Secondary School, Udaipur, delivered an impressive performance at the CBSE West Zone Chess Championship held at Sandipani International School, Indore, from August 17 to 19. The school secured three gold, one silver and one bronze medal, along with five podium finishes.

According to Principal William D’Souza, around 240 teams and more than 1,100 players from Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh participated in the Under-11, Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 boys’ and girls’ categories. Eight teams from St. Anthony’s School participated, with five finishing on the podium.

The school won gold medals in the Under-17 Girls, Under-14 Boys and Under-19 Boys categories. The Under-14 Girls team won silver, while the Under-11 Girls team secured bronze.

The school’s players also earned 13 individual Board Prizes for outstanding performances. Notable achievers included Tanishk Jaiswal, Rudransh Bhardwaj, Mitansh Sahu, Anirudh Sahu, Himansh Chaubisa, Mananya Choudhary, Veera Kage, Paridhi Lodha, Kinjal Bhavsar, Vidhi Vyas, Charvi Maheshwari, Pratishtha Jaroli and Tanishka Kalyana.

Based on their West Zone performance, four school teams have qualified for the CBSE National Chess Championship, proposed to be held in Jalandhar, Punjab, in October 2026.

Principal William D’Souza congratulated the players and credited their success to hard work, regular practice and teamwork. He also appreciated the guidance of coaches Vikas Sahu and Nilesh Kumawat, as well as the support of school staff and parents.
