Airtel Urges Tejas Networks to Take Immediate Action on 900 MHz Interference Issue in Rajasthan

Udaipur. Airtel has written to Tejas Networks demanding urgent corrective action after its 900 MHz network in the Rajasthan service area faced severe interference. According to Airtel, the network’s performance is being adversely affected due to cross-band interference caused by equipment installed by Tejas on BSNL sites.

Airtel stated that despite multiple rounds of discussions, technical reviews, tests, and clear instructions issued to Tejas Networks, no noticeable improvement has been made so far. The company highlighted that the root cause of the interference lies in the technical non-compliance of Tejas’ radio equipment and filter design.

As per Airtel, the band-pass filter provided by Tejas does not align with India’s designated frequency range for the 800 MHz band, resulting in harmful interference in the 900 MHz spectrum used by other operators. Airtel emphasized that other Indian equipment manufacturers have been designing their filters strictly as per established standards for decades, ensuring interference-free operation within specific frequency limits.

The company added that had Tejas Networks recalibrated its equipment in accordance with India’s frequency plan in time, customers would not have had to face inconvenience and disruptions in service. The interference has affected Airtel’s service quality and network stability across the region.

Considering the seriousness of the issue, Airtel has requested Tejas to immediately recalibrate all filters to match India’s band plan and install standard-compliant band-pass filters across all BSNL sites.

This official communication has been issued by Rahul Vats, Chief Regulatory Officer of Airtel, and has also been forwarded to senior officials of the Government of India as well as leading telecom authorities.
