OBSERVANCE OF THE 79TH INFANTRY DAY – A TRIBUTE TO THE VALOR AND SACRIFICE OF INFANTRYMEN

Jaipur, The 79th Infantry Day, also observed as Shaurya Diwas, was commemorated with solemnity and military decorum at the Amar Jawan Jyoti, Jaipur. The observance began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial by Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, Army Commander, Sapta Shakti Command, during which all ranks paid homage to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The event served as a fitting tribute to the valor, courage and supreme sacrifice of the Indian Army’s infantrymen.

Infantry Day is observed to commemorate the landing of the First Battalion of the Sikh Regiment at Srinagar on October 27, 1947, an action that decisively thwarted the enemy’s designs during the early days of India’s independence. The day stands as a symbol of the steadfast resolve and indomitable spirit of the Infantry the “Queen of the Battlefield.”

The Infantry embodies the true essence of soldiering and each infantryman represents unwavering courage, discipline and devotion to duty, upholding the highest traditions of the Indian Army. The event reaffirmed the collective resolve to continue serving the Nation with pride, honor and dedication.
