Aadhe Adhure is considered one of the most important and groundbreaking plays of modern Hindi theatre. It reflects the changing values within an urban middle-class family. Although the play deals with the disintegration of relationships, it portrays the theme in a very unique manner. The writer powerfully unravels the despair, fragmentation, and deep decay that emerged in the value system of the post-independence middle-class family and presents it with great sensitivity.

Story of the Play
Aadhe Adhure is a documentation of the tensions between men and women. The central character, Savitri, is portrayed as a vine constantly searching for a man who is “complete”. Mohan Rakesh’s script presents the story of a family in which every member is incomplete in some way. They exist in a vast emotional void, entangled in personal dilemmas. Their thoughts and identities clash continually as they search for meaning in their individual lives.
