Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, has approved the doubling of the 25-kilometre Umra–Debari rail section at an estimated cost of ₹492 crore. This project is part of a series of special initiatives being undertaken to strengthen rail connectivity across Rajasthan.
To enhance and modernize rail links in the key tourism hub of Udaipur, the approval of this doubling project will significantly improve the railway network in the region. Once completed, it will provide faster and more efficient rail connectivity for Udaipur and nearby areas, while also strengthening the rail link between Ahmedabad and Jaipur.
The doubling of this route is expected to boost tourism activities in Udaipur and Chittorgarh, promote the textile industry in Bhilwara, and support the cement industries located in and around Chittorgarh, thereby generating new employment opportunities. The project will enhance line capacity, allow the operation of more trains, and increase overall train speeds on this section.
It is noteworthy that the redevelopment of Udaipur City Railway Station is also underway at a cost of ₹354 crore. Together, these infrastructure developments are expected to provide a major boost to tourism, as well as accelerate economic and social activities in the Udaipur region.
This initiative reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to strengthening regional connectivity and supporting sustainable development in Rajasthan.
